Calypso is a Communications Toolbox Connection Tool designed to work with CCL
(Communications Control Language) connection scripts.
CCL scripts were originally created for use with the AppleLink program to describe a variety of connections to the AppleLink host.
With Calypso, scripts written in the CCL language can be used to connect to many different kinds of systems using any communication software which uses the Comm Toolbox.
By using an appropriate script, you can use Calypso with the FirstClass front end to connect to a FirstClass server, or with MacTerminal to connect to a Vax, etc.
In addition to the CCL script which explains how to connect, Calypso uses a Comm Toolbox connection tool to actually do the work.
For example, to establish connection over the IBX phone system you would select an IBX script and the Serial Tool.
Or to connect using the MacX25 software you would use a MacPad script and the MacPad tool.
Calypso is most useful when the connection process is more complicated than can be handled by an existing Comm Toolbox tool.
For example, if you want to make a direct modem connection to another computer, you can use the Apple Modem Tool directly.
